On February 8th, Chinese New Year is celebrated.

Chinese new year is the most important festival of China. It is a century old tradition, originating from the Shang Dynasty (1600 BC-1100 BC). The date of the new year is determined by the lunar calender. This year, new year starts on February 8th. According to the Chinese calendar, this is the start of the year 4713.

The Chinese new year announces the beginning of the spring. Therefore, it is also called Spring Festival.

The new year is traditionally celebrated with family, presents, decorations, food, new clothes and haircuts, traditional snacks and dragon- and lion dances.

The year of the Monkey

2016 is the year of the Monkey. According to the Chinese astrology, people who are born in the year of the Monkey are clever and intelligent, curious and they like to be challenged. Monkeys are considered as witty, they are masters of practical jokes.

Chinese new year means a temporarily stop in business; many companies are closed for a few weeks, starting from the end of January.

From February 22nd, most companies will be running again.
